Where Is Your Career Going in 2011? Give Yourself 30 Minutes Today!
Jan 03, 2011Here we are at the beginning of a new year. A time when we typically reflect on the successes and failures of the past year, look forward to the new year and make new years resolutions and promises to do something different or better next year. Is any of this related to your career? What you are looking forward to accomplishing in the next year? What do you wish you had accomplished in the past year?
Give yourself 30 minutes today to think about your career and where you are taking in during the next year. Sure, you can try tomorrow, but you'll be more successful if you commit right now to a time today to do it. When will it be? After work? Before bed? On your drive home? 30 minutes to think about you, your career, your level of job satisfaction and just simply what you want to do.
30 minutes, that's all. And you can do this all on your own. Your career, your family, and you will appreciate your 30 minute investment. Who knows were this will lead? A promotion? A job in a new company? Starting your own business?
Here are a few suggestions to get you started:
- On a Scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate you current job over all, (1 being "I would leave my job in heartbeat if I had the chance" and 10 being, "I love my love my job so much I wouldn't even consider going somewhere else").What would it take for you to move to 1 level higher (e.g. from a 5 to a 6)?
- How is the changing economy and global workplace going to affect me?
- Am I satisfied with the pace of my career advancement?
- If I could make a living with the lifestyle I want, what would I be doing?
- What is the next step in my career development? What more can I be doing and who can help me do even better?
